MTR Foods Oats Idli Instant Mix Review with Onion Daliya Chutney

It is great to prepare a meal from scratch and to have a full course dinner or lunch with the family. That should be our objective. But given the times, we all need a break once in a while. And it is not you are solely dependent on restaurants, because you have a choice of using the range of instant mixes available in the market.

These are different from ready-to-eat products where you heat-and-eat the said dish. Here you get the choice to prepare and mix the products and cater them as per your taste. However, since there are so many it might be a difficult choice to make.
Since I have been trying these for a while I have zeroed in on a few favourites. Some brand might excel in one product the other might be great at some other dish.

So if you have been wanting to try the idlis, I would vouch for MTRs Instant Idli Mixes for sure. Steam a set and whip up a chutney of your choice and your breakfast is sorted! So here we go...

Ingredients for Idli
MTR Oats Idli Mix contains approximately 3 mugs
Curds/Yogurt same as the idli mix, so about 3 mugs or 6 cups
Some water
Idli Vessel
Pressure Cooker

So what you do is pour the idli mix into a mixing bowl add equal amounts of curds/yogurts, a bit of oil about 3 tsps and a bit of water. You keep it aside for five minutes, this is to ensure we have the aerated batter like we do when we naturally ferment it, only instead of waiting for 6-7 hours, our wait here is five minutes.

That done, we take the batter to the idli stand, we apply oil to the bowls and pour spoonfuls of idli batter. Then we set the cooker without a whistle on a high to medium flame and let it steam for 10-15 minutes. 

Once it is done we open the lid and let them cool, then with the help of a spoon we take out the wonderful idlis.
You can enjoy the idlis with sambar or chutney. 
Here is my recipe for a Onion Daliya Chutney
Onions 4-5 chopped
Garlic 3-4 cloves
Coriander a bunch (or at least about 1/4th the amount of onions)
Daliyas/Futana (Roasted shelled gram) about half a cup, Peanuts (optional)
Sesame 3-4 spoons
Red Chilly Powder
Turmeric Half Tea Spoons
Cumin seeds 1-2 tsps
Salt and Oil

Chutney Recipe 
Chop the onions, the garlic and the coriander. Pour some oil, add some cumin seeds and turmeric, and let them temper. Then add the onions, garlic and coriander, sauté them till the onions turn golden brown, then add the sesame, and daliyas and red chilly powder, and saute more. Because I like the taste of peanuts in everything I added some peanuts and desiccated coconut at this point. Once this looks okay, add the red chilly powder and salt, and mix.

After this turn off the stove, and let it cool. Then simply add some water and blend it in a mixie. 

Your onion chutney is ready to go with your oats idli.
My verdict on MTR Oats Idli, definitely good, no negative points. The instructions are easy to follow and the product seems good to taste. The quantity is good (500 gms.) for a breakfast for a family of four.
